I went to the Auckland Zoo to see a Kiwi after class last week.  It took about 30 minutes to get there from town by bus. I looked for the Kiwi’s enclosure and ran there as soon as I arrived at the gate of the Zoo. Closing time was five thirty PM. That’s why I didn’t have enough time.kiwi

The Kiwi is a nocturnal bird. That’s why it’s very dark in the Kiwi House.  At first I couldn’t find it in their house. I waited and peered into the dark. Then, at last, a Kiwi appeared in front of me. I pushed my camera’s shutter. The Kiwi was 30 cm long, brown and looked like a Kiwi fruit. They can’t fly and their eggs are big, 10 cm in diameter. They have long a bill, which they use to dig earthworms out of earth and eat them.

The Kiwi is a symbol of New Zealand, so New Zealand people call themselves Kiwis.

I payed 25 dollars admission. I don’t know whether 25 dollars is expensive. However, seeing a Kiwi was certainly a good experience.

You might wonder why I am learning English at my age.
I’ll answer, ” It’s my challenge”.
