Travel guide Lonely Planet has released its latest New Zealand edition, which includes a list of the 20 top experiences that New Zealand has to offer. Auckland Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf were first on their list. Urban Auckland was second.

Auckland and its harbours are stunning and remarkable places to visit. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Auckland is the world’s 10th most livable city. Mercer ranks Auckland 3rd in the world and Monocle magazine ranks it 9th.

The city has access to two oceans, fantastic waterfront views, good beaches and wine regions. Plus it is an ethnically diverse city and has the world’s largest Pacific Island population. Auckland makes the most of this by celebrating cultural festivals throughout the year. These festivals are, at the same time, entertaining and a great chance to learn more about other cultures.
