It’s not only a school, but also a place where I met wonderful people. What’s more, it’s where I made truly great friends. How lucky I am to always be in lovely classes with great teachers – especially with Martina, Pauline and Melissa! They were the teachers I spent most time with. I did enjoy being in their classes.

Additionally, Martina has inspired me to study English. As you know, English isn’t her first language, but now she has completely become a native speaker. “If I can do it, you can do it as well”, Martina said.

As far as I can see, everything is incredibly awesome! Thank you for unforgettable memories.”

“I gained confidence when I speak English. Now I am able to talk to foreigners anytime, anywhere without any inconvenience.” – Jinah, South Korea https://www.languages.ac.nz/school-review-jinah/ https://www.languages.ac.nz/school-review-jinah/#respond Wed, 22 Jul 2020 02:54:49 +0000 https://www.languages.ac.nz/?p=33229 Hello everyone!

I am Jinah from South Korea and I have studied at Languages International for a year. I remember when I started my course at LI. My first class was Pre-intermediate and I was studying with friends from various nationalities.

I wanted to improve my English skills quickly so I studied in the Learning Center every day. When I wrote something, I could always ask a teacher to correct my sentences and grammar because there are teachers in the LC every day.

Finally, I got to the Advanced class. So I gained confidence when I speak English. Now I am able to talk to foreigners anytime, anywhere without any inconvenience. I have made a lot of friends in our school and we are going to keep in touch in the future.

Also, I really want to thank all my teachers. I have met amazing teachers and they have always been there to listen to me at any time and helped me solve some of my problems. I will never forget this experience and I would like to share some pictures of my time in New Zealand.

I’m Kris from Peru and I studied at Languages International. I’d say that those months were simply incredible in my journey to learn English. Before going to New Zealand and studying at Languages International, I wasn’t able to speak even simple sentences, but now I can talk to everyone much better than before, I feel more confident, and I have definitely improved a lot!

It wouldn’t be possible without Languages International’s help and their amazing teachers! Apart from having good facilities, it also has a great view because you are surrounded by nature and near Albert Park which is one of the most beautiful parks in Auckland. In addition, I used to spend my time (after class) in the Learning Centre because there you will find not just a wide variety of books, but also there are teachers who are willing to help you every day (which is great!).

Finally, I would like to say I’m so grateful and proud of being part of Languages International. Many thanks to my lovely school for their awesome teachers (who were the key to learning English), for allowing me to enjoy the time while I was learning and for giving me such wonderful friends from around the world. I’ll never forget you!

Here are some photos of some of my teachers, friends and my favourite place after class (The Learning Centre).

“I highly recommend choosing Languages International. The experience will be unique. I had the best time of my life in New Zealand” – Damian, Switzerland https://www.languages.ac.nz/damian/ https://www.languages.ac.nz/damian/#respond Thu, 27 Feb 2020 23:29:38 +0000 https://www.languages.ac.nz/?p=31948 Read more » -->]]> Deutsch | English

My name is Damian and I’m from Lucerne, Switzerland. After finishing highschool I couldn’t start to study immediately as every Swiss guy has to do either military or civil service. So, for this gap year before my studies I wanted to travel, learn some more English and get a better feeling for the language considering the university lessons that lay ahead.

Even though we were taught quite a lot of English in school and my level was already quite high, I still felt like my speaking skills were not that good. As I knew some people in New Zealand and was curious about this country, I researched some language schools and finally chose Languages International as it seemed very friendly.

After my brother and I arrived Auckland airport, we were picked up and brought to our host families. I was warmly welcomed in my new family and immediately began to feel in good hands. My host mom helped me to organise the bus card as we lived in a suburb and the city centre was about half an hour away by bus.

On the first day of school, Nick, the Director of Studies, figured out our English level and the right class for us. Besides those small tests we got to know the school and its facilities.

The following day we started to attend class and we were positively surprised by the vibes in class. The lessons really teach you something, but at the same time, are quite diverse and interesting. But a huge part of this nice class ambience were the teachers. We could really feel their motivation and that they love their job. That made school different from other language schools. Beyond that, they don’t just teach you normal school English but more lifelike and practice-oriented English in order to sound like native speakers.

During the whole stay we met lots of interesting people from so many countries and cultures and made friends from all over the world, it was simply amazing. I highly recommend choosing Languages International if you want to learn English in Auckland, the experience will be unique. I definitely don’t regret it; in fact, I had the best time of my life in NZ and was truly sad when I had to go home.

“Of all my IELTS scores, I’m most proud of my speaking score: it’s 6.5. Hi, I’m Krisin from China. I’m a student who is entering a foundation course next year. I have studied at Languages International (LI) for 12 weeks. Thanks to all the teachers at LI. They have given me a lot of help and advice.

LI is a school which has a beautiful environment, great teachers and the best learning atmosphere. Before I came to Auckland, I was very nervous about the new environment, especially about needing to speak English all the time. But, when I arrived here, I didn’t feel tense because everyone here is very kind. In addition, LI’s class atmosphere is so good. I had never experienced such an active class, and interesting teachers before.

I achieved my first goal at LI. I had an IELTS test last month and got a good score. Of all my scores, I’m most proud of my speaking score: it’s 6.5. This score is a huge breakthrough for me. I can’t believe it because my speaking was not good when I was in China. I was afraid to speak with foreigners. In addition, I think all the teachers at LI gave me a lot of help in IELTS. They gave me lots of methods to improve my IELTS skills.

At LI, I made a lot of friends. They are from different countries, and I learnt about many different cultures. Our school has a lot of social program activities, which is really fantastic because we can practice English and make friends.

Over these past 12 weeks, I have improved my English and made a lot of friends at the same time.

Thank you to my favourite school Languages International! Thank you so much!

“Today after 6 months, I can say that this has been one of the best decisions I have made. I achieved my goal, I learnt what I needed to to return to the corporate world, but this time at an international level.” – Juan Carlos, Chile https://www.languages.ac.nz/student-experience-juan-carlos-varas/ https://www.languages.ac.nz/student-experience-juan-carlos-varas/#respond Thu, 19 Sep 2019 21:26:39 +0000 https://www.languages.ac.nz/experiencia-de-estudiante-juan-carlos-varas/ Español | English

Hello!
¡Hola!
Kia Ora,
I’m Juan Carlos Varas from Santiago, Chile. I’m an Information Technology Engineer with more than 16 years’ experience and a Masters in Technology; and a year ago I decided to take a sabbatical, away from the corporate world, to travel and polish my English, a language which opens doors for you professionally-speaking.

My destination was New Zealand, and when I arrived in Auckland, I did a lot of research on the English schools there and decided to study at Languages International (LI). I believe it has been one of the best life experiences I have had because not only did I learn a lot, but I also experienced a unique cultural exchange.

Languages International’s team of professionals is excellent, not only the teachers, but the whole team working at Languages International. They are always ready to help, in every sense, and, moreover, to provide the best learning experience, with a diversity of students that encourages and enhances your learning.

One of the most important aspects is the constant attention given to your progress. To achieve this, they use various teaching methodologies such as diversifying the goal that you need to achieve. In my case it was English for Business and IELTS that helped me greatly in correcting my grammar.

Today after 6 months, I can say that this has been one of the best decisions I have made. I achieved my goal, I learnt what I needed to to return to the corporate world, but this time at an international level.

Thank you to all the team at LI!!
Juan Carlos Varas

“My experience doing the Cambridge CELTA in Auckland, New Zealand” – Angel, China https://www.languages.ac.nz/angel-celta-experience-auckland/ https://www.languages.ac.nz/angel-celta-experience-auckland/#respond Mon, 16 Sep 2019 01:41:50 +0000 https://www.languages.ac.nz/?p=31238 Read more » -->]]> 简体中文 | 繁體中文 | English

Languages International CELTA trainee, Angel, from China, tells about her experience doing the Cambridge CELTA here in Auckland, New Zealand. Find out what the CELTA course is like and how it has changed Angel’s teaching style, why Angel chose Languages International, and why you should come to New Zealand for CELTA.

The video has subtitles you can turn on and there is a transcript below.

Transcript:

First things to know about Angel’s CELTA experience

My name’s Angel. I come from China. I’ve been teaching English for almost six years. I’ve been teaching General English as well as IELTS. I think it’s a good idea to study in an English-speaking country to acquire knowledge about how to teach English, especially to adults, and I think Languages international is the place to go. With experienced teachers the tutors and our trainees are coming from different countries some of them are experienced and some of them don’t have English teaching experience, but we come together and we make progress together.

Why did you choose Languages International for your CELTA?

My friend recommended it to me. I think it’s quite important for someone who has experience and he speaks highly of the school. I think…so I didn’t hesitate.

What is the CELTA course like?

Generally I think the course is very intensive. It lasts for four weeks. You are assessed by two parts the first one is teaching practice and the second one, there are two… There are four written assignments. So you are continuously assessed during the process. I think it’s quite intensive. We have to do the input session in the morning and then in the afternoon, we have to do the teaching practice, which is quite terrifying for some of us. You know, I have experience of teaching English, but it was totally different from my previous experience. I remember my first time I was so nervous and I didn’t think I did a good job so but gradually, I learned from my mistakes and I learned from other Trainees, so The teachers also gave us some positive feedback, so we have learned a lot during in the process.

How has doing the CELTA changed your teaching?

I used to “teach” so much. I talked a lot and gave students instructions. I told them what to do, but now after the course, I think the important thing is to put students in the centre of the study and ask them questions and encourage students to talk, to share their opinions and in this way, they they may have a better understanding of the knowledge I think a good school consists of two parts, first of all: staff, second: environment. I think the teachers are quite experienced and they are very… They’re very supportive for the students. And in terms of the surroundings They are located near the park, and it’s very beautiful to study on a campus like this.

Is it worth coming to New Zealand to do the CELTA if CELTA is available in your country?

To learn a language you should be exposed to the real situation. That’s why I came here. I’ve been learning English since like primary school in China, but I haven’t been to a foreign country, like an English-speaking country That’s why I came here to experience a different teaching style and to get myself exposed to the English-speaking environment. I think that is quite important. I could do it at home in China but I’m not sure what the trainers would be like, but I think learning here and a living here is a rich experience for me.

Do you recommend doing the CELTA at Languages International to others?

Yes, definitely I really recommend Languages International because of its reputation, as well as its teachers. They are quite experienced and supportive.
